As I continue to try out new places in Milwaukee I have realized that my last 3 places have involved one common theme--brunch time. My recent trip to Juniper 61 was no different, and I was glad with my decision to dive back into brunch on Super Bowl Sunday!
This cozy venue located at 6030 W North Ave, sitting on the edge of Milwaukee and Wauwatosa, is a trendy joint with a gamut of drinks and food options that are locally sourced. Artwork made by Milwaukee-bred artists runs across the walls of the restaurant are available to purchase, a neat feature Juniper offers. Their brunch starts at 10 AM on Saturday and Sunday, and their regular operating hours during the week run from 11 AM to 10 PM.
I chose to to go with their well-known and respected Shrimp N' Grits option (noted above), and For $10.95 I felt very satisfied, and most of their other options (ex. Salmon & Apple Slaw, Seared Beef & Swiss), are below or around this price point. My entree came with caramelized onions and eggs, and the seasoning on my entree was phenomenal and was not overpowering in any way. The employees were friendly and asked if my party needed anything a lot, which I always appreciate.
Some of Juniper's dinner and brunch specials rotate weekly so figuring out what to eat can be a challenge, a fun one nonetheless (Shrimp N' Grits are always available during brunch). Their drink specials vary throughout the week so you can always catch a deal after a long day! After eating brunch at places including Storyhill BKC, Comet (5 times), The Noble and Coffee Makes You Black, Juniper 61 is at the top of my list, primarily because of the upscale yet homey ambiance and relative decent prices for such complex dishes.
I don't know what your Valentine's Day weekend is looking like, but taking someone to Juniper 61 might be a safe and reliable move to make--one that might even get you a second date. Gentlemen, take notes and the receipt after eating a well-priced and well-prepared meal at Juniper 61.
