I have not written a blog post for my website in an extremely long time, since August to be exact. To be honest, I thought about calling it quits and just focusing on other life things that are important. However, I still enjoy writing and good food--leading me to a new journey and vision for this website.
Let me be clear. I am not proclaiming to be a vegetarian, vegan or whatever label America might have for me. What I am professing is that there are alternatives to meat that help the environment, taste better, cost less and will keep your waistline in tip-top shape. (I'm a 32 x 32 in jeans for any troll with a rebuttal) All four of these factors are easy reasons as to why eliminating meat could be advantageous.
I've experimented with no meat for a month or two and have decided to dive deeper into this change after doing more research, reading The Happy Vegan and just wanting a challenge and something to push myself. I should also say something else: I'm not being judgemental about anyone's eating habits whatsoever by posting what it means to get rid of meat. If you check my food reviews/instagram, there are numerous posts that include animal products including fried chicken, pulled pork and lobster. That said, there are also posts that do not include animal products including a Walnut Burger from Build-A-Burger and a black bean burger from Cafe Benelux.
Living in Wisconsin, a state synonymous with meat and dairy products, could make this journey hard--or it could just make me mentally tougher. I always tell people life is one big mental game, and the phrase rings true for this lifestlye change. For the record, THIS IS NOT A DIET. A diet is temporary, fleeting and trendy. That said, I typically don't like telling people what I'm doing with my life because well, it's my life, but I will share information about a meatless lifestlye and ways to go against the grain (food puns, here we come) because I feel it's important to not only help myself, but help others.
My past food reviews were simply about cuisine within the Greater Milwaukee area, but I think this journey with food will reach a wider audience and have a greater impact on people's lives, something I'm all about. Food is something that we as humans love to talk about because it is essential but can also taste SO good, and this website has given me an opportunity to share what I have consumed and what I will consume.
Think of this section of my website as a spin-off to a television show. It might be different, it might be weird and it definitely will be new, but it will still have remnants of its original counterpart. I will still be reviewing restaurants in the near future and the meatless options they offer, but I will also be giving tips, sharing recipes and anything that screams "How To Live a Good Life With No Meat." I hope you all are able to learn something about yourself if you decide to try no meat for a day, week or even month. I know you baby boomers out there are attached to meat like siamese twins are attached at the hip, but going vegan/vegetarian is actually the hip thing to do. But remember, this is not a fad, it's a lifestyle change. Whether you agree or disagree with this proposition, I hope you can use this blog for enlightenment and think with an open mind.
